From a Morning Greeting to a Classroom Book
What begins as a simple classroom ritual can grow into something much bigger. Inspired by their daily “good morning” greetings and the beloved picture book Goodnight Moon, the Sparrows East class is creating their own book titled Good Morning, Sparrows!
Imagining the Future: Marylhurst Middle School Visits Pacific University
Marylhurst middle school students recently spent a day at Pacific University exploring science, art, athletics, and theater. From sharing science fair projects with university faculty to touring studios and performance spaces, students experienced what learning can look like on a college campus and began imagining new possibilities for their future.
Ravens Bring WWI to the Stage
Ravens students transformed their World War I studies into an original musical that blended history, music, storytelling, and performance. Through research, reflection, and collaboration, students explored the causes, complexity, and human impact of WWI while bringing history to life on stage.
A Morning of Learning Across Generations
Grandfriends Day offered a meaningful glimpse into daily life at The Marylhurst School, from hands-on history and scientific inquiry to creative writing, music, and movement. Across classrooms, students shared their thinking with confidence and curiosity, revealing the many forms learning takes in our community.
Deepening Connections: Pattern, Scale, and the Movement of Ideas in Middle School
At The Marylhurst School, middle school students deepen their understanding by exploring pattern, scale, and the movement of ideas across math, science, history, and design. From geometric tessellations to scientific models of the very big and the very small, learning unfolds through sustained, hands-on inquiry.
Celebrating Community at Our Donor Appreciation Event
On January 24, The Marylhurst School gathered with members of the 1972 Society and dedicated volunteers at Hyland Estates for a warm and welcoming donor appreciation event. The afternoon celebrated the generosity, service, and community spirit that help sustain and strengthen our school.
Sparrows Culminating Events: A Buzzing Celebration of Learning
Our Sparrows community gathered to celebrate months of learning inspired by bees. Through original game design and an immersive Bee Hive Hotel experience, Sparrows East and West shared their understanding of pollinators through creativity, storytelling, and hands-on exploration.
Meadowlarks Culminating Event: A Bridge Between Past and Present
Our Meadowlarks class welcomed families to an interactive salon celebrating their fall study of water, Portland’s bridges, and the connections between engineering, history, and art.
The Marylhurst School Approved as an NWAIS Candidate School
We’re excited to share an important milestone for The Marylhurst School. We are proud to announce that Marylhurst has been approved as an NWAIS Candidate School and look forward to sharing updates as we move through the accreditation process.
Ravens Class Volunteers at Oregon Food Bank
The Ravens class stepped beyond the classroom for a hands-on service learning experience at the Oregon Food Bank. Students worked together to sort and package apples and potatoes for families across the region, learning about food insecurity, local agriculture, and the impact of collective care. Their hard work and enthusiasm helped create thousands of meals for the community.
Marylhurst Gives Back: A Food Drive to Remember
Our school community came together in a remarkable way during our first annual food drive. With the support of students, families, and staff, we delivered more than 1,000 pounds of food and essential items to local organizations serving families in West Linn, Oregon City, and beyond. Your generosity made a meaningful difference for our neighbors this season.

Jog-a-Thon 2025
What a beautiful fall day it was as our Marylhurst community came together for the annual Jog-a-Thon! Students, teachers, and volunteers ran the trails, cheered one another on, and helped raise more than $16,000 to support new outdoor play spaces on campus.
Celebrating Harvest Fest: A Day of Joy, Creativity, and Community
Our students brought creativity, collaboration, and joy to life during this year’s Harvest Fest, a Marylhurst tradition planned and led entirely by students. From pumpkin games and face painting to homemade soup and donuts, the day was a celebration of community, imagination, and student leadership.
Finding Inspiration: Faculty Professional Development Day
Faculty and staff spent the day learning together, beginning with a hike on our new cross-country trail and continuing with professional development sessions focused on literacy, preparedness, and collaborative problem-solving.

Transportation Summer Camp: A Week of Wheels, Wings, and Wonder
From a trolley ride and Jeep builds to a firetruck visit, RV tour, and paper-airplane flights, our Transportation Summer Camp gave ages 3–6 a joyful, hands-on week of wheels, wings, and wonder. Curious questions, big smiles, and lots of learning—thank you to the friends, families, and community partners who helped make it unforgettable.
