Celebrating Innovation: Marylhurst Graduate Named Top 300 Junior Innovator

We are thrilled to share that Marylhurst graduate Josie Ramirez (Class of 2025) has been named one of the Top 300 Junior Innovators in the 2025 Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge (JIC), a program of Society for Science.

Josie’s recognized project began right here at Marylhurst as her 8th grade science fair project last spring. Out of 1,890 entries nationwide, her work was selected as one of the top 300 middle school science and engineering projects—a tremendous honor that reflects her curiosity, creativity, and perseverance.

This recognition comes with a prize package, a certificate of achievement, and the opportunity to advance further when the Top 30 finalists are announced on September 17. Those finalists will be invited to Washington, D.C. for Finals Week in October.

We could not be prouder of Josie and the hard work she poured into this project during her time at Marylhurst. Her achievement is a shining example of what is possible when students are empowered to follow their questions, test their ideas, and share their discoveries.

Congratulations, Josie, we can’t wait to see what the future holds for you!
