From a Morning Greeting to a Classroom Book
The Sparrows East class is creating their own book inspired by the classic picture book Goodnight Moon. Their version is titled “Good Morning, Sparrows!”
The project grew out of the class’s daily morning ritual. Each day begins with students greeting one another with a cheerful “Good morning!” One day, a student added an unexpected “Good morning!” to an invisible classmate who was absent. From there, students began adding greetings to familiar objects around them. This playful tradition sparked an idea: What if the class created a book full of “good mornings”?
Students are now designing and writing their own pages, offering greetings to different and surprising parts of their classroom world. When all the pages are finished, they will be compiled into a class book titled “Good Morning, Sparrows!”
Once the book is complete, the Sparrows plan to share it with our volunteer librarian and read it to the Owls class.
This is a wonderful example of how a small moment of curiosity can grow into a creative project, with students moving from idea to writing to illustration, and finally to publication.
