Marylhurst Students Advance to Elite Eight in Oregon Battle of the Books
Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a statewide reading competition in which students read from a list of 16 titles and compete by answering detailed questions about the books. While no one is expected to read every title, team members typically become “experts” on 4–5 books and work together to cover the full list, making collaboration just as important as comprehension.
This year, Marylhurst’s middle school team achieved its strongest regional performance to date, advancing to the Elite Eight. They narrowly missed moving on, falling by just two questions, in sudden death, to the team that ultimately placed first in the state and will represent the region.
Our dedicated team members, Bebel, Molly, Addie, Blake, and Scarlett, represented the school admirably. Bebel and Molly, in particular, provided steady leadership, anchoring the team throughout their three middle school years.
We were also fortunate to have Claire serve as an invaluable assistant coach this season, and to see broad interest across the middle school, with students like Maci, Kyros, and others contributing meaningfully to team meetings and discussions.
Congratulations to all involved for an outstanding season and for representing Marylhurst with such commitment, collaboration, and love of reading!
