Planting the Seeds of Stewardship at The Marylhurst School

The Marylhurst School is taking an exciting new step in our commitment to environmental stewardship and outdoor education! We’ve begun the process of becoming a certified community site through the Backyard Habitat Certification Program.

This regional program, run by Columbia Land Trust and the Bird Alliance of Oregon, helps people and organizations transform their yards and greenspaces into thriving habitats that support native plants, birds, pollinators, and other wildlife. With more than 13,000 participants across the Portland metro area, the program is helping connect natural spaces throughout our community, creating healthier, more resilient ecosystems for generations to come.

By joining this effort, Marylhurst will continue to strengthen the connection between our students and the natural world that surrounds them on our 38-acre campus. As we work toward certification, we’ll be taking steps like planting native species, removing invasive weeds, and creating spaces where pollinators and wildlife can thrive, all while providing rich, hands-on learning opportunities for our students.
