Grandfriends Day offered a meaningful glimpse into daily life at The Marylhurst School, from hands-on history and scientific inquiry to creative writing, music, and movement. Across classrooms, students shared their thinking with confidence and curiosity, revealing the many forms learning takes in our community.

At The Marylhurst School, middle school students deepen their understanding by exploring pattern, scale, and the movement of ideas across math, science, history, and design. From geometric tessellations to scientific models of the very big and the very small, learning unfolds through sustained, hands-on inquiry.

On January 24, The Marylhurst School gathered with members of the 1972 Society and dedicated volunteers at Hyland Estates for a warm and welcoming donor appreciation event. The afternoon celebrated the generosity, service, and community spirit that help sustain and strengthen our school.

Our Sparrows community gathered to celebrate months of learning inspired by bees. Through original game design and an immersive Bee Hive Hotel experience, Sparrows East and West shared their understanding of pollinators through creativity, storytelling, and hands-on exploration.

Our Meadowlarks class welcomed families to an interactive salon celebrating their fall study of water, Portland’s bridges, and the connections between engineering, history, and art.

We’re excited to share an important milestone for The Marylhurst School. We are proud to announce that Marylhurst has been approved as an NWAIS Candidate School and look forward to sharing updates as we move through the accreditation process.

The Ravens class stepped beyond the classroom for a hands-on service learning experience at the Oregon Food Bank. Students worked together to sort and package apples and potatoes for families across the region, learning about food insecurity, local agriculture, and the impact of collective care. Their hard work and enthusiasm helped create thousands of meals for the community.

Our school community came together in a remarkable way during our first annual food drive. With the support of students, families, and staff, we delivered more than 1,000 pounds of food and essential items to local organizations serving families in West Linn, Oregon City, and beyond. Your generosity made a meaningful difference for our neighbors this season.

The Marylhurst School has taken an exciting step toward environmental stewardship by beginning the process of Backyard Habitat Certification.

We’re proud to share that The Marylhurst School has once again been named one of Niche.com’s Best Schools for 2026, earning an overall grade of A! This recognition celebrates our community of curious learners, dedicated teachers, and engaged families who make Marylhurst such a special place to learn and grow.

What a beautiful fall day it was as our Marylhurst community came together for the annual Jog-a-Thon! Students, teachers, and volunteers ran the trails, cheered one another on, and helped raise more than $16,000 to support new outdoor play spaces on campus.

Our students brought creativity, collaboration, and joy to life during this year’s Harvest Fest, a Marylhurst tradition planned and led entirely by students. From pumpkin games and face painting to homemade soup and donuts, the day was a celebration of community, imagination, and student leadership.

Faculty and staff spent the day learning together, beginning with a hike on our new cross-country trail and continuing with professional development sessions focused on literacy, preparedness, and collaborative problem-solving.

The Meadowlarks took their learning outdoors with a field trip to Clackamette Park, where the Willamette and Clackamas Rivers meet.

We are thrilled to celebrate several Marylhurst students whose work appears in Honoring Our Rivers, a statewide anthology of K–12 writing and art focused on watersheds.

From a trolley ride and Jeep builds to a firetruck visit, RV tour, and paper-airplane flights, our Transportation Summer Camp gave ages 3–6 a joyful, hands-on week of wheels, wings, and wonder. Curious questions, big smiles, and lots of learning—thank you to the friends, families, and community partners who helped make it unforgettable.

From oil pastel desserts to mind-bending tessellations, students at our Art Meets Math Camp discovered how geometry, symmetry, and pattern fuel creativity. Inspired by renowned artists, they explored the powerful connections between calculation and imagination, and showcased their work in a celebratory art show.

Summer camps are officially underway at The Marylhurst School—and what a start it's been! From erupting volcanoes to clay creations, custom dice rollers to royal mysteries, our first week was packed with creativity and joy. With new adventures launching each Monday, there’s still time to join the fun.

Our 2nd and 3rd grade Meadowlarks brought their Oregon Trail studies to life with a museum visit and overnight campout. Through wagon families, Trail Dollars, and teamwork under the stars, students connected deeply with history and each other.
