Elizabeth Kortenhof

Elizabeth joined The Marylhurst School as a long-term sub in 2005. Only planning to stay a year, she fell in love with the school and community and never left. Elizabeth was born and raised in Portland. She received a BA in German at Lawrence University in Wisconsin where she also student-taught and earned a High School teaching certificate. Teaching high school was not for her so she attended The University of Texas at El Paso where she earned her elementary certification. Before starting her family, she taught at a variety of schools - Charles Wright Academy, in Tacoma, WA, St Marks Academy in San Rafael, CA, Ysleta High School and Hughey Elementary School in El Paso, Texas, and Oregon Episcopal School in Portland. When her first child was born, she took a leave of absence from OES. After having twins two years later she decided to stay home with her children. In her free time, Elizabeth enjoys walking and crabbing at the beach, curling up with a good book, hiking with her dog, sewing, and quilting. Teaching young children is her passion. “I live for those moments when the faces of my students light up with an amazing discovery or accomplishment.”
