Invest in Stories That Matter

At Marylhurst, our libraries are places where curiosity begins and ideas take shape.

Books play a vital role in shaping how students learn, imagine, and understand themselves and the world around them. Through a wide range of stories and information, from fiction to nonfiction, biographies to poetry, students are able to explore topics far beyond the classroom and deepen their understanding in meaningful ways.

Just as importantly, reading builds essential literacy skills. The more students read, the more their vocabulary, comprehension, and writing grow. A rich, engaging library invites students to read often, helping them develop confidence and independence as learners.

But perhaps most powerful is the way books spark joy and connection. When students can choose stories that reflect their interests, or see themselves and others represented on the page, reading becomes something they want to do, not something they have to do. Books open doors to empathy, creativity, and new ways of thinking.

They also inspire curiosity. A single story can lead to new questions, new interests, and deeper exploration. This is where learning truly begins.

During Literacy Week, our students will take part in our annual Read-a-thon, a day dedicated to celebrating reading in all its forms. Classrooms will be filled with quiet focus and the shared experience of getting lost in a good book.

While our Read-a-thon isn’t about counting minutes or pages, it is about something even more meaningful: creating space for students to experience the joy and power of reading.

How You Can Support Our Libraries

Our Read-a-thon is also an opportunity to support the continued growth of our school libraries. Your gift helps us bring in new books that reflect our students’ identities, expand their interests, and keep our collection vibrant and engaging.

Every book matters. Every reader matters. And your support helps place meaningful stories into the hands of our students.

We invite you to support The Marylhurst School’s Read-a-thon and help us continue to nurture a lifelong love of reading in our students.
