Mary Mahorney

Mary joined The Marylhurst School Faculty in 2001. She holds a Bachelor of Science from Oregon State University with a double major in History and Political Science and a minor in Philosophy. After extensive traveling in Europe and Asia, she settled in Bend, OR. Later, Mary returned to OSU and completed a degree in Secondary Social Science Education. She spent nine years teaching at The Lower School at The Catlin Gabel School in Portland before joining TMS. "Teaching Humanities to middle schoolers and guiding eighth graders through their Leadership and Legacy Projects has made me realize how fortunate I am to spend my days with such extraordinary young people. I am lucky enough to have discovered the convergence of three things I value: a passion for the newness each day brings when looking at the world through the lens of the middle school-aged child, a commitment to supporting young people to become engaged and passionate members of society, and the opportunity to engage daily in rich, inquiry-based curiosities through the lens of historical exploration. Teaching and learning from the middle school-aged child is challenging, restorative, joyful, and filled with the wonder of newly discovered possibilities."
