Emma Scheuch Balentine

Emma is originally from Missoula, Montana, and graduated from Montana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She spent the past four years on the east coast teaching in Boston, Massachusetts at a Reggio Emilia–inspired school, where she developed her passion for child-centered, inquiry-based learning.

In her classroom, Emma is committed to building a community that is full of kindness, joy, and curiosity about the world. She encourages creativity through daily provocations, supports intentional social-emotional learning, and helps children build their independence and confidence. One of her favorite Pre-K projects is redesigning the dramatic play center every few weeks as a whole class. Inspired by the seasonal changes and student interests, it encourages teamwork and imagination.

Emma loves laughing with her students and embracing the magic of early childhood. She recently moved to Southeast Portland and is so excited to be teaching Pre-K at The Marylhurst School. On weekends, she is often trying new restaurants, spending time outdoors, and reading her book. She also loves arts and crafts, playing the piano, and watching the hummingbirds at her feeder
